Concentrating Photovoltaic
At Whitfield, efficiency is a guiding principle. Our new concentrator product offers;
- Low cost
- Low weight – a benefit for installation and in roof-top projects
- Low embodied energy – as customers recognise the importance of this additional carbon source
- Low ‘tech’ manufacturing – enabling satellite production in developing countries that want remote power generation
- Low barriers to scalability – using no solar glass and 2.5% of the silicon of conventional PV panels
Whitfields CPV unit has its tracking system built in. By combining the 'tilt' and 'roll' of the panel and troughs, the unit can find and follow the sun wherever it is installed. Unlike PV panels it does not need to face South.
The unit will also withstand hail and wind and does not need to 'park' in high winds.
Whitfield's concentrator requires the minimum of ground work and is quick to install with units arriving on site fully assembled and tested.
Suitable for locations with good insolation record – typically 1600 kWh/m2 per annum and above – Whitfield’s CPV product can radically improve the investment returns for a large scale installation and reignite interest in projects challenged by the ever-changing tariff structures which characterise the solar market.
